site redesign

It has been a year and a half since I updated the design of this site.

In life, we grow and our taste changes. I didn’t identify myself anymore with the template-based design of the old site.

So for the last couple of weeks, as if I didn’t have enough to do already, I redesigned once again. White, I guess, is the new grey, that itself was of course the new black... Incorporated the fonts that I have been using in my company’s identity for years now. The lines? I don’t know. I like lines. And crossing them, obviously.

A bit more ‘sophisticated’? Who knows. At least, for me things are more balanced and simple in this new design. Probably I’ll be tweaking stuff for the next couple of months.

Less is more!

finished assignments

So it’s been a couple of months working on different projects.

Recently, I finished editing a corporate video for Making Films for Nigel, about projects in Egypt and Sudan of different Dutch organizations. Not uploaded yet, but probably available soon at Making Films for Nigel.

Apart from that, I’m finishing working on the two videos for the Antropology department of Utrecht University. When completed and uploaded, they will be available at the site of Cultural Anthropology.

tourada - a year later

It’s already been almost two months since I returned from a second research trip to the island of Terceira.

It was a good and fun experience being on the island again. Renewed contact and friendship with people from last year, and also met an abundance of new and possibly interesting people to portray.

As last year, now I face the task of bringing the result of all this new research together in a project proposal and production planning. I will return to Terceira island again next year, hopefully with decent funding, to make the documentary!

recent and upcoming assignments

I am currently working on an assignment for the ‘Instuut voor Beeld en Geluid’, in making small promotional videos for their ‘Mediawijsheid’ training for educators and librarians. I already made a short promo for the training and some testimonials and will be adding more testimonials soon. You can see these videos at the website of Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid.

Apart from that, I’m preparing (well actually, waiting for the script) for a new assignment for Utrecht University. In line with the promotional video I directed last year for the Sociology department (see it here), we will be making a similar web video for the Cultural Anthropology department and a longer video about the job perspective of graduated anthropologists.

an update of activities

Apart from the two documentaries I’m working on (see info on Tourada and Spoorbio), I am busy with some other stuff as well. University is a good employer, but not so good that I can sip cocktails all day with my part time lecturing position.

Currently, I am making items for the Internet platform Leraar 24, which is a website for teachers in primary, secondary and vocational education. My activities involve making items in the typical ‘camjo’-fashion (someone should come up with a better word than camjo - me is no journalist). For fast clickers: we are a team of people working on these items - only a few of those published are my work.

Occasionaly, the people from ROET give me a call to do a workshop for children in secondary schools. It is my challenge to teach them the basics of film making, guide them through the process of filming a very short film themselves and editing that film for them. Timespan: (less than) one day.

And, there are always the occasional short assignments, like the editing of a corporate video for Making Films for Nigel I did last month.

Fortunately, I have a new bed and matrass, so I do still find time for probably my favorite pastime... sleeping!
